Introduction of solid foods in the diet of vegan children

When and how to introduce the various elements? There are lots of vegan mothers who do these questions, mostly when the child reaches the age of 6 months. In the ideal case until the sixth month the baby is breastfed, and only then must deal with the weaning.

The order of the different foods of course also depends greatly on the culture of the country, the climate where you live.
I thought so, what would be most appropriate to present the different possibilities, then I decided to show you two alternatives. I found the book an Italian 'Sons vegetarians' Luciano Proietti and another represented on the book by American 'Dreena Burton: Vive le Vegan' (which among other things is a of my most favorite on the subject). Then you can decide which system to choose. We advise you to check out them both to get more ideas.

The differences between the different countries there are many, here are some examples:
- U.S. blackberries and blueberries belong to the first fruit to be introduced. Here in Hungary but they are up to 18 months to avoid the risk of allergy.
- In Hungary, the chestnuts are to be introduced by 6-7 months already, but in Italy only after one year (as far as I know ..) this is also the danger of allergies.
- potatoes are to be introduced since the early both the United States and Hungary. In Italy, however, belong to the last for the presence of solanine, which can be toxic to the body.

Then there are a lot of controversy lately about the issues as follows:

- give or not to oil seeds to children under 1 year?
- give or not to soy and its derivatives also to children from 1 year old and how much?
- give or no grains with gluten, and when?
In my following post I will write in more detail in the future!

Foods to avoid for children at least up to 2 years
- sugar
- sugar cookies
-
chips - chocolate
- candy
- coca to other soft drinks
- any type of foods that contain preservatives, artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners or MSG.

Introduction of solid foods seconds Luciano Proietti (pediatrician and father of three):
You can read more of his system HERE.

Fruit
From 6-7 months: apple, melon, watermelon, apricot
Dried fruit: the plums, figs, apples, apricots, etc.. fired after 12 months, after the entire 2-3 years.

Oilseeds
From 6-7 months: almond milk (50-100 g per day), mixed with other foods.
From 1 year up : pine nuts, hazelnuts (???, I always read that at least 2 years and the danger of llaergia! ), walnuts, sunflower seeds and peanuts.
1 teaspoon per day, in the form of cream.

Vegetables
In his book, the doctor Proietti shares his interesting enough indication for me so There I quote a few lines:
"For the first few weeks give your child the only vegetable soup with corn, then if the child grows evacuation and well, you can add to the soup even small amounts of vegetables, past or crushed.
This indication is contrary to the conventional indicators of academic childcare even the "alternative" (naturist, vegetarian, macrobiotic) both fit the vegetables too early, around the sixth month, with the start of weaning, often creating disturbances on the apparatus digestive and growth. These are usually charged at an inadequate weaning, as they would be given a sufficient amount of animal protein, iron, fiber, water, which are then integrated with the effect of further aggravating the clinical symptoms and discomfort the child.
The physiology of digestion provides that, at least in the first year, the dietary fiber is absent. ... The introduction

"early", ie the first 12-18 months of the fiber, causes, being antifisiologica, various disorders, more or less evident in relation to individual constitution:
- slowing growth
- diseases digestion
- gaseous colic
- constipation paradoxical
- lack of appetite.

If you decide to introduce vegetable
- before 1 year of age: carrot, yellow squash, zucchini, green beans, fennel, leeks, onion, lettuce, beets, turnips, green leaves of celery, Jerusalem artichokes, cabbage, garlic and artichoke. The amount of vegetables (steamed or cooked in broth) should be limited to 1-2 tablespoons maximum.
- after 12 months : spinach, chard.
- the last group of vegetables to be introduced is that of the Solanaceae: eggplant, peppers, potatoes and tomatoes. These vegetables contain "solanine, a substance that can be toxic to the body. Their use is recommended occasionally, during the period of natural maturation and not before 1 year of age. In addition, the potato, if poorly maintained, can become very toxic, especially where he presented the shoots, and once cooked, should never be kept because it oxidizes. "

Cereals and their derivatives
- grains: NO until the first year (best to start with cereals and low-profile after the year is not every day) because they contain too much bran can be harmful to his delicate intestines. In early
toast the flour is better, because then the starch is transformed into dextrose, which the bowel of the child is able to assimilate immediately.
- cereals with gluten (wheat, barley, rye, oats): not before the sixth month, from only 10 months!
- cereals without gluten: rice, maize, millet, buckwheat, quinoa, amaranth and tapioca (which in reality is not a cereal but a tuber). These already by 6-7 months.
- seitan (gluten extracted from wheat flour and then baked) from the time the child eats cereal with gluten (10 months or so. It is cooked in vegetable broth and then goes through the rest of the vegetables.
- cereal grains: after the first month, cooked long.
- cereals: they are cooked for a few minutes in any liquid (broth, milk, cereals).
- cereal drinks ("milk" of rice, barley, oats, etc..) are not suitable to replace breast milk, being deficient in fat, vitamins, minerals amino acids.

Vegetables Peas, chickpeas, lentils, beans, soy beans, azuki beans, lupins, peanuts, etc.
The proteins of legumes are deficient in certain amino acids necessary for human being, but precisely the same amino acids are abundant in the Corn: just add the vegetables to cereals to ensure that the protein is necessary!
- you can start to 7-8 months with the red lentils or yellow peeled (peeled). After a short introduction: lentils with husk, peas, azuki (red beans, soy), peas and all kinds of beans.
- let beans soak for at least 10-12 hours, after that, throw away the soaking water should be boiled in water renewed, with a small piece of kombu seaweed.
- can also be served to children daily, 1 meal daily, in small amounts (1-2 teaspoons), always associated with cereals and vegetables.
- the soy milk and tofu : from 12 months, always in small quantities!

The seaweed or sea vegetables
Source inportantissima of omega 3 fatty acids, nutrients essential for the nutrition and brain development, and taurine essential for the development of the retina in children.
Other indirect sources of omega 3 fats: vegetables, greens, purslane, linseed oil, walnut oil, and soy.
Various types of algae:
- the wakame and kombu : from the start of weaning. A small piece of kombu (2 or 3 cm) can be added to soups, broths, no more than 2-3 times a week.
- the hiziki and arame: lend themselves to salads or cooked vegetable side dishes.
- nori seaweed, toasted once, it can crumble on dishes.

Oil
- extra virgin olive oil: the sixth month in a dose of 1 teaspoon in jelly. Use good quality oil, with Italian olives, extra virgin, first pressing, from organic agriculture. After
other types of oils: sunflower seeds, corn, sesame seeds, and others.

Sale
- in the first year of the child should avoid adding salt in food that can be flavored using algae or gomasio (preparation of macrobiotic cooking, consisting of sea salt and sesame seeds ).
From 7-8 months can be added to 1 teaspoon of sesame gomasio or just, well pulverized.
- after the first year you can use the sea salt.

Wedding Vote Of Thanks Speeches

women at the top command

women at the top command? In Italy not yet.

I always thought that women had an edge over us boys.

Since I work, mainly to do with coaching and training women, was a sensation that has turned very soon, actually.

always companies with more women in top command are more competitive and are more useful than those managed by their male colleagues.

Not only that, because of their connotation to create empathy, women are able to create a climate of social and human, in companies which operate much better.

Unfortunately, we are in 2010 and women at the top of command , counted on the fingers of one hand.

Ours is still a male-dominated world, where the woman is for a minor role, if not "home" .

Even when a woman is very smart, smarter than a man, not the credit is given and nothing is taken for granted.

A study of 200 companies by McKinsey & C said that profitability in businesses run by women, is also growing by 10%.

We have dozens and dozens of women "smart" , from Anna Maria Artoni Marina Berlusconi, Azzurra Caltagirone Emma Marcegaglia, by Rosalba Casiraghi to Miuccia Prada, Anna Gervasoni Frida Giannini, by Michela Vittoria Brambilla to Renata Polverini, from Carolina Morace Star Boso, etc..

Yet, in Italy, there are still only three women out of 100 in the executive committees of major corporations, while in "cold" Norway, the number of women going to 32.

be because I work for a long time, maybe because I learned to know and understand, maybe because I appreciate their work, but I can not wait to see women at the top of control.

speak a command that matter, where decisions are made. In short, in the "cabins" director of the country Italy.

I am convinced that they would know to manage administer and Italy and its regions much better than many boys.

you how you feel?

High Off Of Benzonatate

'Thighs' fried seitan

Yes, yes, children generally prefer things fried .. :-) I think that right there is not much of a difference between cultures. :-) This recipe is healthier instead of traditional ones, because the seitan is not fried in oil, but breaded and placed in a pan, then baked in the oven without fat. Then the seitan is also much healthier meat, right? :-)
Since I tried this dish for the first time, I had to do it again at least once a month, because it has become a favorite of the family (including my omnivorous husband:). My son has eaten 2 skewers alone and this is a good result for me, knowing the delicacy of the seitan. In the sense that prepare the seitan is not always easy: it is often too hard, or 'rubbery', maybe flavored. On the other side is also rather easy to do, just know a few secrets.;) I have not had the courage to do the gluteina home, but for example on Blog Tippitappi can see how it works.
Then try this recipe, is good good :-) The seasoning of the mixture of seitan is so good and tasty to me that since this is the basic recipe for the seitan.
I've offered with potato croquettes (having quickly as always), but a salad would be better there.

Note: seitan (important source of protein!) can be included in the diet of the child from the moment they eat cereals with gluten, ie from 10 months: is cooked in vegetable broth, then goes through the rest of the vegetables.

'Thighs' fried seitan
Suitable for children from 1 year.
Ingredients (for 3-4 people):
cc = 1 cup. 250 ml

12 mini bamboo skewers 1 1 / 4 cup of instant seitan
1 / 3 cup vegetable broth powder
1 / 2 teaspoon onion powder
1 / 2 teaspoons garlic powder

paprika 1 teaspoon freshly ground white pepper 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

1 to 1 1 / 4 cup water

breading 1 cup soy milk
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil 1 tablespoon
Flaxseed
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 / 2 teaspoon onion powder
1 / 2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 / 2 teaspoon paprika
1 / 2 teaspoon salt
1 1 / 3 cup bread crumbs

Sauce 1 / 2 cup margarine not hydrogenation ( I know that in Italy and many prefer not margarine, but this here is organic and not hydrogenation. ideas for replacement are well accepted here . :-)
1 cup of organic ketchup (ketchup usually do not like and do not use it either, but here is fine.)

Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Put aluminum foil on the bottom of a baking dish. Mix the flour, stock powder, and spices together. Add oil and enough water to the dough. The dough should be a bit 'stiff, but can be kneaded. Knead for a few hours and then form a loaf and cut into 12-16 pieces. Push a bamboo skewer into each piece of dough and form around a stick. Wet your hands if necessary.
Whisk together soy milk, olive oil, lemon juice and flax seed in a shallow dish. In a separate plate mix bread crumbs and spices.
Dip the pieces of seitan in the mix soy milk, then in breadcrumbs. When all the seitan were coated, dip back into the soy milk and bread crumbs.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until golden. While the seitan is cooking, melt margarine in a small saucepan and add the tomato ketchup hot. Remove the seitan baked from the oven and brush with sauce. Put it back in the oven and cook for 5 minutes.

Does A Black Hat Go With Brown Boots?

pumpkin soup with broccoli and potatoes

In Hungary, for lunch we always eat some soup or broth as the first. But what makes a mother when she would hide a bit 'less preferred the vegetables from his son? Prepare creams and velvety. :-) Or the soup with some vegetables whole. This version here is in the middle way between the soups and creams. It may be that the taste of broccoli is too strong for small, but the squash and the potatoes soften.
Simple-easy, suitable for mothers always in a hurry. :-) A soup welcomed by the whole family.

pumpkin soup with broccoli and potatoes

Guide On Pune To Coorg

seed bread Sunflower

To tell the truth we do not eat much bread ... Sometimes for a snack, but more for dinner. 3 years ago though, when he said the milk allergy of our child I found myself in the situation of being unable to buy bread shops. I started this at home. At first we bought a bread machine (Moulinex), but I was not quite satisfied. Someone should make do with the machine the dough, then put it in the oven to bake. And yes, that was already much better. :-) The crisper crust, and in less dry. During the first I took more attempts at 100% of wheat flour (usually spelled), but then we reached DC. quarter of the white flour, and later as 50%, because children would not eat it all full ...
currently has opened a bakery nearby that makes the bread with sourdough, so often I buy it from them.
Bread made with sourdough I have not ever tried, but perhaps also because we do not really like the taste a bit 'sour dough in the bread ready (at least what I feel complete ..). But once I'll try for sure.

:-) This recipe is easy even for beginners. :-) Here on the picture I made with 100% whole wheat flour, but you can add 25-50% white flour (rather than organic).

Warning: is advisable to introduce whole grains a year later. Before you use white flour, white rice, because those integrals containing too much bran can be harmful to the delicate baby's intestine.

For those who are interested in the full bakery, here is a beautiful book and very useful :

Viking Longship Poems

Breakfast and 'porridge' of brown rice with oatmeal

It need not to hasten the introduction of breakfast in the case of children under one year! If the baby can be fed even in the twelfth month, just give breakfast a year later. Our Little has 17 months now, I'm still nursing, so the first morning to take breast milk and is after breakfast.
We eat about 4-5 times a week different varienti of porridge, rice or cornflakes with milk, then take the rest of toast with jam, another day some sweet homemade (eg brioche, opp. swivels carob, some tart, plum vegan cake etc.), and Sunday is strictly American pancakes (those among our favorite is the banana :-).

The 'porridge' is not necessarily just oatmeal, but can be mixed with other cereals, eg rice, millet, barley flakes, rye opp. amaranth, quinoa maybe.
know the 'Calendar of cereals' ? 7 cereals in 7 days in sync with the rhythm of the planets.
You can read more HERE .

Monday - rice
Tuesday - the BARLEY
Wednesday - the MILE
Thursday - to RYE
Friday - the OAT
Saturday - the MAIS
Sunday - WHEAT

I really like this system because it helps in organizing the week, always planning for plates with a different cereal every day. And so at least you're careful inclusion of all seven of these in our diet .

The porridge usually the following Monday and prepare the children love it.

Recipe Print

rice porridge with oatmeal
If you are prepared with brown rice is suitable for children from 1 year, with the white rice instead of already 8 months, seeded, in that case as a snack. With linseed and sesame opp. with almonds from 9 months onwards.
Ingredients (serves 4):
cc = 1 cup. 250 ml
1 cup brown rice (quick cooking by 15 min. but not pre-cooked, but if you take that from long cooking time of 40 min., it should be put in soak for a few hours )

1.5 cup water 1 cup milk 2-3 tablespoons vegetable
flakes (small)
oatmeal 1 teaspoon cinnamon
agave syrup or maple
raisins and / or other seasonal fruit
ground flaxseed
sesame seeds or ground almonds

We have to cook the rice with water and the milk plant, along with the raisins. When the rice is already soft, add the oatmeal. If necessary we can add a little 'liquid, we prefer more creamy. At the end we put the fruit, seeds, cinnamon and sweetener preferred.

Chest Infection Do We Need Antibiotics

Why write this blog?

are vegetarian for 18 years, vegan for 3 years. 4 years ago when my son was born, you were still going to make it grow from a vegetarian, even though my husband was omnivorous. Unfortunately, I found almost no information on nutrition for children written in Hungarian vegetarians. After a year of the first experiments, I started writing my first blog 'Vegagyerek' Hungarian (it would be 'Bimbo vegetarian' in Italian), hoping to help other desperate mothers like me in the first period. In those days I ate more egg and dairy products. In the meantime, however, my first child was allergic to dairy products, and also to different pollens .:-(( began a vegan diet with the family, supporting the diet with a homeopathic cure. The second pregnancy began so already by vegan . Our baby at 2 years instead of the meat saw often asked the pope to eat the flesh ... He is 4 years old now and I'm 2 years who eat meat ...:-( The girl is rather still my hope (is 17 months now), maybe you become a vegetarian again ...:-) Although she now calls already well eg fish every now and then the little brother ...
After 3 years of treatment other than our boy unfortunately still suffers more of allergy, even now must take the antihistamine every day, so the diet of milk and dairy products has remained in the family.

now I am 90% vegan, which means that a house does not prepare the meat, and cook in a vegan, but outside the home if I can not avoid (eg: in the restaurant opp. From relatives) sometimes I eat dishes made with eggs or dairy products.
I follow the whole foods, ie cereals and cooking always use whole wheat flour (white flour only very little), and do not buy even more refined sugar, only the cane (and agave syrup).
Here Blog will share with you my favorite recipes in our family (yes-yes with some specialties Hungarian).

In the first three years of my Hungarian blog I have received many letters from vegan mothers asking me advice and I am very glad I could help them at least through the virtual world.
:-) Since during this time I was able to gather much information from the international literature of veganism, I've decided to start this blog hoping to offer something new even to Italian mothers.
:-) And my other goal is even more selfish to exercise beautiful Italian language that I would not forget after so many years of study :-)) (I majored in Italian language - German, worked in Rome for 3 years 'au pair', then 10 years as an interpreter and tour guide often starting for my beloved Italy. Ahhh that wonderful time :-)

'Summa summarum' I invite you to subscribe to feeds of blogs for not taking no information and if you have any questions ask me, write me in comments or in private :-)

Winning Women: Veronica Polish

Today, "Winning Women" , I talk about Polish Veronica, a beautiful girl who after being in coma, is graduating and has fun doing the actress.

say it is beautiful is an understatement. Veronica twenty-two years and it is beautiful.

But what strikes her, paradoxically, is not so much its beauty, as the will to live and enthusiasm that puts you in doing things.

Four years ago he nearly died, ending up in coma. A long illness then the "awakening".

Since that day, Veronica celebrates the date of its revival as a second birthday.

One of his beautiful phrase speaks volumes about the philosophy of life of this girl:
"Life is too beautiful, too important to waste even a minute. In order not to smile to be here."

Today Veronica has to his credit a stake in the film "Mucho Macho" of Leonardo Scucci , where she starred opposite Gaetano Gennai and a television program on local television Tuscan .

With the enthusiasm and love of life that distinguishes it, Veronica has recovered his life.
Take as you and fight. Be strong as Veronica, lifts your head up and take the life that belongs to you.
